How should I store raw or frozen BBQ food after delivery or self-collection?

Most of our raw BBQ food is supplied frozen or partially thawed while still cold. For outdoor BBQs, you may keep the food in the insulated foam box supplied by BBQ Wholesale until you are ready to cook.

General guide:

  • Foam box about ¾ full: if the box contains mostly frozen or partially thawed food, keep it shaded with the lid properly closed. As a practical guide, the food can typically remain cold for around 5–6 hours.
  • Foam box less than ¾ full: add about 5kg of ice to help maintain the cold temperature. Keep the lid properly closed and the box shaded.

The 5–6 hours is a practical guide only; actual holding time varies depending on the amount of food and ice, outdoor temperature and how often the box is opened.

Tips for outdoor BBQs:

  • Open the foam box only when necessary and take out only food you are ready to cook.
  • Keep the box out of direct sunlight.
  • Check the food about 1 hour before cooking so you can plan your grilling sequence.
  • Do not leave raw food at room temperature just to speed up thawing.
  • Once food has fully thawed, do not refreeze it.
